#VidHuddle: Lighting Equipment
For our 10th chat, we had a giveaway of a free HDSLR LED light. I hope to have more giveaways in the future. For this chat, we mainly talked about lighting equipment. Lighting is crucial to quality video, and it can scale from small productions to feature films.
Q1: What is your favorite lighting set up? #VidHuddle pic.twitter.com/GFBCLVHp3C
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A1: Can't go wrong with the basic 3 point lighting set up for web videos. #VidHuddle pic.twitter.com/sbNuPOjgNw
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A1: For interviews, big soft key, a bounce fill of some kind, and a small hard back light. Maybe a slash in background #VidHuddle
— Daniel Risk (@danielrisk) August 14, 2017
A1: 3-point set up for its simplicity. Sometimes with another for the BG. #VidHuddle https://t.co/SXNK9qaXSd

A1: Side lighting the subject with natural (afternoon) window light-if possible. #VidHuddle

Q2: LED vs. Hot Lights? #VIdHuddle pic.twitter.com/mkGQMrnYDh
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A2: Hot lights for now based on $ and punchiness, but fresnel LEDs from @MoleRichardson and @KinoFloLighting Celebs r attractive #vidhuddle
— Daniel Risk (@danielrisk) August 14, 2017
A2: LED. They make my interview subjects more comfortable than being under the hot lights and they sweat less. #VidHuddle https://t.co/QhhjyUHKZT
— #MehTID (@RobbMeh) August 14, 2017
A2: Modern LEDs are safer, cooler and some have color controls Besides as sensor ISO has improved heavy duty lights less critical #VidHuddle
— Jerry O'Connor (@geroco) August 14, 2017
A2: Depends on the scale of the shoot.I prefer LED lights for their ease, but they can't throw the light as far as hot lights do. #VidHuddle

Q3: What are some tips for lighting indoors? #VidHuddle pic.twitter.com/32WJby16GP
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A3:Use the windows-whether it means blocking out the light or using it as a natural light. Always bring a power strip on location #VidHuddle
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
Another one I thought of is at least knowing the basic of electrical currents and how much you're pulling least you pop the fuse. #VidHuddle https://t.co/9rbdIAvOsK
— #MehTID (@RobbMeh) August 14, 2017
A3: For interviews use tighter framing & lower f-stop for soft background & opening up aperture provides a stop or 2 more light #VidHuddle
— Jerry O'Connor (@geroco) August 14, 2017
Q4: How many lights should you have? #VidHuddle pic.twitter.com/Fxzmz7EJBR
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A4: Many pros will confirm. THE LEAST NECESSARY. Half of shaping and fine tuning on big shoots is turning off unnecessary units #vidhuddle
— Daniel Risk (@danielrisk) August 14, 2017
A4: Depends on work. I mostly do interviews so 3 light set works for me, otherwise I rent more. #VidHuddle
— Jerry O'Connor (@geroco) August 14, 2017
A4: Min. 3 with diffusers and gels to help you for any situation. Again- depends on the project. #VidHuddle
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
Q5: Renting lights vs. Buying lights? #VidHuddle pic.twitter.com/VZd7oJSzGa
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
A5: Depends on the situation. I work for a university department and pretty much just use small lights, so we buy. #VidHuddle https://t.co/BgCGhb0xlA
— #MehTID (@RobbMeh) August 14, 2017
A5: Depends on the client & the budget As with all equipment only buy what produces income on a continuous basis, otherwise rent #Vidhuddle
— Jerry O'Connor (@geroco) August 14, 2017
Q6: What are some resources for lighting tips? #Vidhuddle pic.twitter.com/MmFi5sjQS0

A6: Youtube has plenty of tutorials, and I love the @CreativeCOW forum for tips. #VidHuddle
— Andrea Abbott (@AndreaPAbbott) August 14, 2017
